Family therapy, or systems therapy, is a highly specialized field which was developed in order to do much more than treat symptoms. The systems therapist pursues an in-depth understanding of the client's individual history, their physical, emotional, spiritual, and familial biography which are all bricks in the mortar that makes an individual who that individual is. These same "bricks" also formulate individual coping mechanisms as we respond to every day life, from the most mundane events and relationships all the way to handling major events and even trauma.
Systems therapy is not designed to tear down or destroy your family or drag old skeletons out of the family closet. On the contrary, the goal is to help you understand what makes you tick, why you tick this way, and how to reset your inner clock.
